The Silver Queen Preservation News, Winter 2006Local groups create Colorado Mountain Heritage Adventure program |
|
By Diane Kielty The Chamber & Tourism Bureau of Clear Creek County has partnered with the surrounding counties of Gilpin, Summit, and Jefferson to create the new Colorado Mountain Heritage Adventure program to increase awareness of and attendance at our historic and cultural heritage sites. The program will entice families and heritage travelers to visit participating counties by means of collecting memorabilia during a fun and educational adventure. It is also designed to be a shared learning experience for the family and an ongoing tool to increase visitor awareness of the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region. The first project in the program is the production and distribution of a treasure map that will show all participating cultural and heritage sites. At present we have identified 40 sites for the map, which will be in cartoon form to attract the 4th & 5th grade audience.

The initial plan is to distribute 50,000 maps to schools in participating county areas, the Front Range, and Denver, as well as Colorado Welcome Centers and statewide Visitor Centers. Maps will also be available at all advertiser locations. A flyer promoting the program will be distributed to schools prior to the end of the school year. The impact that this program will have on attracting and educating visitors interested in history and culture to our region is clear. The program also has the potential to build community pride in our heritage, and it offers our region the opportunity to work together to educate the public on our wealth of cultural and heritage sites and to generate revenue. If you are interested in participating in this project, please contact Diane Kielty or Heather Lopez of the Chamber and Tourism Bureau at (303) 567-4660. |
