Fund raising continues for Hamill Park

By Ronald J. Neely,
President

Fund raising continues on Hamill Park, which will be built behind the Hamill Carriage House and Hamill Office Building. Budgeted at $525,842, we have received cash donations and pledges totaling $190,400 as of January 31, 2002, and we are most pleased to be at 36% of our goal. When we reach 50%, we will be contacting the foundation community and the Great Outdoor Trust Fund (lottery funds) for additional support.

There was one error in the brochure which was recently mailed to our membership - the deadline for gifts and pledges is 12/31/02, not 01. We don't plan to be under construction until the spring of 2003, so you still have plenty of time to make your pledge. There are several items available which you can "purchase" in memory of a friend or loved one.

Please refer to our Hamill Park update icon at the bottom of the home page of this website to be directed to a detailed budget page and a listing of those items still available. Please check it even if you have already made a pledge and make sure we have it recorded and that we have the correct spelling.

Commemorative bricks for the donor walk are also available for $125.00 each. In answer to inquiries about the bricks, they are full size at 8"x 4"x 2½", and the wording is engraved into the bricks, then filled with exterior rated epoxy grout. The grout will be colored a deep green or black. According to the manufacturer, under normal wear and tear, the bricks will last indefinitely. Indefinitely is a euphemism for "we don't know for sure" but it is an unknown period of time so far into the future that no one has yet calculated it. Suffice it to say that the bricks will last a long, long time. Should they ever wear out, remember that we have a small endowment for the park that will enable future generations to not only maintain the park, but also replace a brick from time to time. You can join with friends and purchase a number of bricks for a poem, verse or limerick. Your great-great-great grandchildren will enjoy reading it.
