Conservation easements
protect historic buildings,
open lands


A conservation easement is a voluntary legal agreement made between the property owner and a qualified organization, in this case Historic Georgetown, Inc., to protect a significant historic property, landscape, or archeological site by restricting future development on the site. Because the property owner(s) convey a portion of their rights on the property to HGI, HGI then has the legal authority to enforce the terms of the easement, which is tailored to the individual needs and requirements set forth by the property owner and agreed upon by HGI. Once recorded in the county records office, an easement typically becomes part of the property¹s chain of title in perpetuity.

 

  • Church-Hamilton House - 921 Rose Street, Georgetown. The Church-Hamilton
    House, owned by Chalmers G. Long and Kathleen S. Hoeft, is in excellent condition. All requirements of the conservation easement are being met. The conservation easement date is December 30, 1987.
  • Ecklund House - 927 Rose Street, Georgetown. The Ecklund House, owned by Robertson Enterprises, LLC, is in excellent condition. The façade and the property are in very nice condition. One requirement is not being met in accordance with the conservation easement. The easement document states that automobiles must be parked beyond (westerly of) the front façade of the building extended to the South. Vehicles are typically parked in front of the façade. The conservation easement date is December 12, 1998.
  • 8-7 Lode and Anglo-Saxon Lode Mining Claims - Georgetown Lake, Georgetown.
    Owned by the Town of Georgetown, the 8-7 Lode and Anglo-Saxon Lode Mining Claims are in good condition and all covenants are being met in accordance with the conservation easement. The conservation easement date is May 12, 1995.
  • Taos Square - 507 and 509 Taos Street, Georgetown. Taos Square, owned by Taos Square, LLC, is still under construction. Construction will be completed by the end of summer, after which a report will be prepared and filed. The conservation easement date is July 31, 2002.
  • Anna Lode Mining Claim - Silverdale Historic Mining District, Georgetown. Brooks and Shirley Lingo recently sold the Anna Lode Mining Claim to the Clear Creek County Open Lands Commission. The process of transferring conservation easement rights to HGI is not yet complete. Once HGI holds an easement on the Anna Lode Mining Claim, a report will be filed.
