It has been four years since we last held an auction to benefit HGI and auction chair Debbie Zarlengo along with special events chair Dana Abrahamson; silent auction chair Coralue Anderson; decorations chair Mary Clark; auction coordinator Kim Overpeck and their volunteer committees, have been very busy...

making this event one of the most exciting auctions yet!

Thanks to our many members and friends, there will be numerous exquisite antiques and unique one-of-a-kind items up for bid. The oral auction, conducted by Danny Johnson of Have Voice Will Travel, of Denver, begins at 1:30 pm under the big white tent on the Hamill House lawn. Items include: an antique dining table; an old ten-strand Heishi Necklace; a dinner at the Hotel de Paris, catered by the Westin Tabor Center, Denver; two VIP passes on the Durango/Silverton Railroad; a gourmet cooking class for six; a personalized financial plan;a hot air balloon ride; a Laura Ashley chaise lounge; antique chandelier; and original artwork.

The silent auction, held in the carriage house, will also include a variety of antique furnishings, recreational equipment, books, artwork and unique household items.

The ticket price includes a catered dinner prepared and served by Rob Goodell and his staff from the Loveland Ski Area. Dinner, which begins around 4:30, will start off with a selection of hors d'oeuvres: Beef Wellington Canapé; smoked salmon puff pastry; prawn cocktail and fruit and cheese skewers. Next, a spring mix green salad with baby pear tomatoes and vinaigrette dressing will be served.

To clean the palate - three berry sorbet. Then on to the main course of beef tournedos or Rock Cornish Game Hen on a bed of wild rice pilaf, accompanied by sautéed Parisienne vegetables. Dessert, which will be the chef's selection, will be served along with coffee.

Annual Report, Visions of the past and of the future

by Mary Riddle Clark,
HGI Board of Directors
Chairperson

(Georgetown Community Center, June 24, 20000)

Do you like to dream? I do…Today we are going to talk about dreams - and visions…visions of the past and visions of the future.

Last month marked the 30th Anniversary of the incorporation of Historic Georgetown, Inc. The vision of a handful of people some might call "dreamers." HGI has evolved into a nationally recognized institution in historic preservation. When founded in May of 1970, few people, including the founders, could foresee the many challenges that would lie ahead.

From the acquisition of its first property, the Hamill House, in 1971 to the purchase of its latest, the Mahany Building, in 1999, HGI has experienced three decades of remarkable progress in the preservation of the built environment of the Town of Georgetown.

From five acres of open lands on Leavenworth Mountain to over 1,000 acres today, it has become an important force in the protection of the natural environment of the Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic Landmark District.

In celebration of these three decades of achievement, a banquet will be held in October of this year. You will be receiving details of this event in the weeks to come. My remarks today concern the activities of our organization for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2000.
