Curator, "Many projects to complete." |
By Nan V. Rickey, Curator
I would like to thank the Board of Directors and the membership of HGI for the opportunity to work with the splendid resources belonging to Historic Georgetown, Inc. and for the pleasure of working with a fine staff.
HGI Curator Nan V. Rickey
I am pleased to note the avalanche of donations that has come to HGI and am especially impressed by their quality and the value they add to the organization's worth.
During the remainder of this year, we plan to finish restoration work on the fernery in the conservatory of the Hamill House and the rearrangement of some of the furniture as well. At the Kneisel House, I would like to point out current work that is being done to connect the sewer and water lines and the replacement of the front entry staircase. General repairs at the McCreedy House have made it more suitable for tenants. In addition, we have intentions to invite the squirrel family living in the Johnson Log Cabin to find new quarters not in an HGI property.
Looking ahead, I am planning to organize the collections and improve their storage. We are already making progress cataloging this summer with the help of Malia Andrus, our summer intern from Colorado College.
I would like to extend my appreciation for the work being done by the volunteer Costume Committee and would like to mention that there are plans underway to create a collections processing and research center in the Hamill Wash House. In addition, I am looking forward to commencement of the work on the Mahany Building, the McCreedy House Assessment and beginning restoration on the wood and exterior of the Office Building. Most especially, I invite the membership to concentrate positive thinking on successful grant funding for interior work on the Bowman-White House.
