Georgetown Summer Art Series slated for Hamill lawn and garden

This summer Historic Georgetown, Inc., will host the first annual Georgetown Summer Arts Series, on July 7, August 4, and September 1. The programs are scheduled for noon -6:00 p.m. each day and will feature live bands performing in Hamill Park and vendors on the lawn of the Hamill House Museum. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

Bands will perform throughout the afternoon on the newly-built stage in Hamill Park. They will feature a wide variety of musical styles, including rock, bluegrass, and jazz, just to name a few! The vendors will sell hand-crafted and fine-art products, high-quality commercial items, and mouth-watering foods.

Vendor space and sponsorship opportunities are still available for the event. For details and applications, please call the HGI office at (303) 569-2840, or email
preservation@historicgeorgetown.org, or visit the Summer Arts page for updated information about the series, including detailed schedules and vendor lists. We hope you will join us for this exciting new event.

This year, incumbent board members Mary Riddle Clark, Robert Gibbs, Sally Hopper, and Barry Westerland are up for re-election. There will also be elections of new board members. Look for your election ballots in the mail in late May or early June. Additionally, Life Membership awards and Volunteer awards will be presented.

The Annual Field Trip will commence immediately following the business portion of the meeting. This year the HGI Board of Directors agreed that the destination will be Ron Neely's memorial site at the Alvarado Cemetery. A picnic lunch will follow, weather permitting.

Please plan on attending and helping us make this Annual Meeting a success.

Hamill laundry house to debut this summer

The Hamill Laundry House, located on the Hamill House property between the house and the privy, will be open to visitors for the first time during the upcoming 2007 tour season. The building, with details in the Greek revival style, predates the house built by Joseph Watson in 1867, and it probably existed on the site prior to Watson's purchase of the property. The Hamill family used it as a laundry house and summer kitchen.

The interpretation period of the structure will date from 1879-1885, the same time period interpreted for the house. HGI would greatly appreciate donations of items dating from this time period to utilize in the interpretation of the Laundry House.

Hamill House tours will resume on Memorial Day weekend. Hours of operation will be Monday-Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please call the office (303 569-2840) if you would like any additional details about donating items or for scheduling a group tour of the Hamill House.
