Field trip returns to Annual Meeting agenda

By Bill Wilson

The HGI Annual Meeting will be on June 17th at the Georgetown Community Center at 10:00 a.m. Following the meeting, a box-lunch picnic will be held at the site of the Dibbons Mill and Sidney Mine along the Waldorf Road. The location of the open-air picnic was chosen to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the opening of the Argentine Central Railroad to the Waldorf Basin.

For those interested in historical investigation, we will attempt to identify the exact location of the Sidney water tank along the old railroad grade, which is the current Waldorf Road. This will involve examining old photos of the railroad and taking a short walk to the approximate water-tank site. Those who wish to remain at the picnic site may choose to be regaled by historic tales of the area. Transportation to the picnic site will be arranged before and during the annual meeting.
