Sandra Dallas, author, part-time Georgetown resident, and HGI Board member, entertained an enthusiastic group of book lovers who gathered for wine and light refreshments at the Hamill House on Friday evening, March 14. Ms. Dallas related her professional journey from Denver bureau chief at Business Week to best-selling fiction writer. She noted that the leap from reporter to novelist was perhaps more difficult than she had anticipated, but that her background was of some assistance. For example, listening for a good quote translated easily into imagining dialogue.

She elicited her biggest laugh of the evening by confessing to her difficulty composing her first steamy scene. She recalled locking herself in her room with her keyboard and starting with, "He unbuttoned her blouse." Ms. Dallas also read the first chapter of her current best selling novel, The Chili Queen. The plot unfolds in New Mexico, and also contains some sequences in Georgetown. The fund-raiser for HGI included the opportunity to purchase fiction and non-fiction books written by Ms. Dallas, which she signed that evening. HGI still has some books available, including some out-of-print books. |
