Historic Georgetown's Benefit Auction

Flower Girls! Professor 'enry 'iggins! Eliza & Mr. Doolittle! Perhaps even that dreaded Hungarian, Zoltan Karpathy will appear!

We are absolutely delighted to announce the return this summer of our popular and very successful benefit auction !

Thanks to the underwriting support of members from Boulder, Colorado, this benefit auction and gala entitled "My Fair Lady," will be held on August 19, 2000, and even though "the rain will stay mainly in the plain," we will again have a huge, and we mean huge, white tent covering the lawn of our favorite Englishman, William Arthur Hamill. There will be Flower Girls! Professor 'enry 'iggins! Eliza & Mr. Doolittle! Perhaps even that dreaded Hungarian, Zoltan Karpathy will appear!

The auction and gala, which starts at 12:30 PM and lasts until 6 PM, promises to be a fun filled day of food and festivities for all who attend. We encourage you to come and enjoy the beautifully catered dinner as well as the first-class entertainment the day will offer. In keeping with our theme, "My Fair Lady", there will be elegance and flowers galore and even silver tussie mussie's available for purchase.

Ticket prices for this event are $75 for HGI members and $85 for Non-Members (which also includes a one year HGI membership). Corporate tables are available for $800.

As in years past, the days festivities will include both an oral and silent auction. The higher valued items will be put up for bid at the oral auction beginning at 1:30 in the big, white tent. The unique but less valuable items can be bid upon during the silent auction in the Hamill Carriage House.

We have already received some exciting donations from our members, including treasured antiques and one of a kind pieces of artwork; even donations as unique as a hot air balloon ride for two! In addition, we have been given several donations of various services. Our deepest thanks to those of you who have responded to our need for items to be auctioned off. However, we would be pleased to acquire additional auction items and request that our many members and friends consider donating items to make this the biggest and most successful auction yet!

For ticket reservations, donations of items and/or services for either the silent or oral auction and additional information, please contact the offices of Historic Georgetown, Inc. at (303) 569-2840. All donations may be shipped to the Hamill House at 305 Argentine Street in Georgetown, or dropped off at our offices.

During the Depression...

Georgetown looking southeast from 6th Street and just above Spring street. An interesting view showing the Court House and the old stone jail in their original locations. Just to the left of the Court House is a log cabin which was the Clear Creek County Abstract and Title Company for many years before it was moved (along with the Court House and Jail) to new locations on Artgentine Street.

In the left center is the Georgetown School which was constructed by the WPA in 1939. Also of interest is the lack of trees on the lower part of the Guanella Pass Road.

This picture is part of the Library of Congress Depression Photo Series. High quality images are available for viewing at the John Tomay Library in Georgetown, which generously provided these photographs.

Annual Meeting will
be held on June 24th

In commemoration of HGI's 30th anniversary, we are planning a very special annual meeting banquet and awards ceremony on the evening of June 24th. We are currently in the planning process of this special occasion which will include a variety of presentations highlighting preservation in Georgetown and HGI's role in making our community one of the finest examples of a turn-of-the-century Rocky Mountain mining town.

The evening will begin with cocktails then proceed to a sit-down dinner that will feature an awards ceremony and addresses from several noted speakers. Additional information on this event will be provided within the next few weeks. We hope that you will join us to mark Historic Georgetown Inc.'s 30th anniversary.
