A view of 6th Street looking west from the Hydroelectric Plant. The Star Hook and Ladder Firehouse building (now Town Hall)( is on the right with the bell tower (note the huge flag pole atop the tower.) Just beyond it is the three story Cushman Building, the third story of which caved in after a heavy Spring snow in 1969 (the now two-story building currently houses Clear Creek National Bank and the Fort Mackinaw Candy Factory). Note also the utility poles on both sides of the street and the absence of I-70. This view is also from the Library of Congress Depression Photo Series and is shown here through the courtesy of the John Tomay Library. |
