Dedication
of Hamill Park Pavilion
highlights magical day for Hall family and Historic Georgetown, Inc. |
|
By Cynthia Skeen On September 10 a year ago at the formal dedication of Hamill Park, HGI Executive Director Dana Abrahamson presented generous supporters Bob and Betty Hall with a bouquet of flowers in honor of their 64th wedding anniversary. So it seemed just right to schedule this year's dedication of the new pavilion building on September 10 again, in honor of the couple's 65th anniversary. The structure houses a kitchen, storage area, and restrooms, and a
pergola graces the south side of the building. Future park users may
use the area for exchanging wedding vows, staging musical entertainment,
and perhaps for shelter from a mountain rain shower. HAMILL PARK At the ceremony, Abrahamson also recognized major Hamill Park donors Bob and Karin Gibbs, Bill and Kathie Wilson, and Stan and Judy Dempsey. Dr. Frank Pyles, former minister at the Presbyterian Church that the Halls attended when they lived in Georgetown, offered a blessing for the occasion. Susan Hall Orr shared stories of her parents' life together. |

We
wish you a Merry Traditional Christmas -
Visit Georgetown over the holidays |
|||||||
For
the first two weekends of each December, the town of Georgetown, Colorado,
transforms into a bustling Christmas scene reminiscent of Christmas of
long ago. Thousands come to this tiny mountain town to experience a traditional
Christmas holiday, where Christmas has barely changed in more than a hundred
years: roasted chestnuts, holiday shopping, horse-drawn wagon rides through
historic Georgetown, and wonderful sights and smells. Visitors enjoy appearances
by St. Nicholas in his traditional dress and the daily procession of the
Santa Lucia, as well as carolers in Victorian costume, dancers, and other
family entertainment. Adorned with lights and Christmas greenery and blanketed
with snow, the historic little town of Georgetown has been a Christmas
tradition for generations of Colorado families.
The 47th annual Georgetown Christmas Market, sponsored in part by Studio 1430 KEZW AM, will be held the weekends of December 2 & 3 and December 9 & 10, 2006. Christmas Market features an outdoor European marketplace with handcrafted gifts, in addition to Georgetown's charming year-round shopping experience. Beautiful shops showcase Christmas ornaments and decorations, Victorian items for the home, exquisite clothing, antiques, and gifts. Local restaurants offer a variety of fine food and drink. |
Christmas Market visitors also enjoy touring the museums of historic Georgetown, namely the Hamill House Museum, the Hotel de Paris Museum, and the Georgetown Energy Museum.. After shopping and touring, guests are invited to Grace Hall, next door to the Episcopal Church, where a lovely high tea is served daily during the Christmas Market. Historic Georgetown, Inc., will also host the annual Christmas at Hamill
House, a series of evening receptions in Victorian tradition, with the
lighting of the Christmas-tree candles, carol singing, hors d'oeuvres,
and wassail. Christmas at Hamill House will be held on the evenings
of December 9, 15, and 16, beginning at 6 p.m. each evening. Please
see page 2 for program and ticket details. |
