Have you ever wished you had a comprehensive and informative walking-tour guide in hand as you poked around the historic neighborhoods and downtown of Georgetown? Now such a book is available. HGI recently sponsored "Historic Georgetown, Colorado, Self-Guided Walking and Driving Tours." Prepared by Bill Wilson, this 96-page guide is expected to be a great asset to the community, for it entices visitors to explore historic Georgetown and to linger longer. As a result, visitors are likely to become more acquainted with our local shops and restaurants. The guide contains accounts of 81 historic sites in and near town. Included are commercial buildings, residences, parks, churches, mines, mills, civic buildings, museums, and the railroad. For each site, the author describes some facets of its history, architecture, or other features, and he includes a photograph that has been computer-modified to resemble a pen-and-ink sketch. The book is 4 x 9 inches and has fold-out front and back covers. Detailed colored maps, several historical summaries, an abstract of each site description, a glossary of architectural and mining terms, and a site index enhance the presentation. Numerous anecdotal sidebars, sometimes informative, sometimes amusing, always delightful, occur throughout. The book also includes a map of part of the Guanella Pass Scenic and Historic Byway, from Georgetown to Guanella Pass, with descriptions of highlights that occur along the way.

Visitors and locals alike will want to have this guide to learn the history and architecture of Georgetown's many historic sites. You can purchase the book for $3.95 plus tax from various local vendors, including the Gateway Visitor Center and HGI.
