History Club begins its tenth year

by Bill Wilson

In September, the Devil's Gate History Club, sponsored by HGI, began its tenth season with a program by Chris Bradley, "I shutter to think - Slides of early Georgetown photos." Chris identified changes in early Georgetown through the photos. The October program was presented by Beth Simmons - Scenes, Secrets, and Skeletons of Idaho Springs. Her slide show was based on her newly-published book, "A Quick History of Idaho Springs," which is available for purchase at the Gateway Visitor Center.

The following is this year's remaining schedule of topics. Prior to each meeting, announcements are posted at various locations in Georgetown and Silver Plume and on HGI's web site, and they are published for several weeks ahead in the "Currents" section of the Clear Creek Courant. Those interested in attending should check these sources for details and any updates, including exact titles.

November 19 - Scenes Along the Argentine Central, by Dan Abbott.
December - No meeting
January 21 - Clear Creek Fashions Through the Ages, by Jill Roeder
February 18 - Fifty Years of Jeeping in Colorado, by Bob Primus
March 18 - History of Lawson, by Joan Drury
April 15 - Gambling and Historic Preservation, by Mark Wolf
