Candles, carols, wassail supply traditional flavor to Christmas at Hamill House |
As has been done for every holiday season since 1971, the year we purchased the Hamill House, this special home will once again be festooned for the holiday season and will host eight Christmas receptions for our members and friends. Carefully decorated by a bevy of volunteers, the Hamill House will once again capture the spirit of a 19th-century holiday home. On Saturday evening, November 29, immediately following the annual Georgetown lighting of the Town tree, the Hamill House will welcome Mrs. Nancy Johnson's Santa Lucia Singers of Georgetown Elementary School. The children and their families will be greeted with holiday goodies and will enjoy Christmas carols, a short Christmas program, and the lighting of candles on the Hamill House tree.

On December 3, Historic Georgetown, Inc., will partner
with the Clear Creek County Chamber of Commerce for a reception meant
especially for the local business community. Local merchants are invited
to join us that evening to learn about the Chamber of Commerce, while
enjoying Christmas at Hamill House. Tickets are $10 per person, and non-members
as well as members of the Chamber are invited.
On December 6, HGI will host the return of the Denver area descendants of William A. and Priscilla L. Hamill. About 50 Hamill descendants are expected to attend this private family reception for caroling and the lighting of the Christmas tree. Each December marks the happy return of members of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department for one of the most special celebrations of the year. On December 11, Historic Georgetown will host the firemen and their families and friends, as we again thank them for saving the Hamill House from the near-disastrous fire of 1974. This Christmas the Hamill House will host well-known local musician John Adams, who will entertain guests with John Denver music on December 12. The next three Christmas evenings at Hamill House will be held on December 13, 19, and 20, all for members and friends of HGI. Each evening has its own character, but guests are always greeted by our gracious and affable butler, Mr. Ken Nelson of Georgetown. Guests are then directed to the kitchen for liquid refreshments and to the dining room for hors d¹oeuvres. The Silver Plume Singers will lead in carol singing and merriment, and several wassail and holiday toasts will ensue. Shortly thereafter, guests will gather in the library for the lighting of the tree. Upon departure, the ladies will be presented with a small red rose in the tradition of Mrs. William A. Hamill. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (303)569-2840. |
