VAN VECHTEN

 

1. DIRCK TEUNISE VAN VECHTEN was born circa 1585 at Vechten (Vegten or Veghten), Holland. He apparently had at least two sons58:

11. TEUNIS DIRCKSE VAN VECHTEN arrived in America prior to 1628. Unmarried, he had a difficult time until he returned to Holland where he married circa 1632. The first two of three known sons were born in Holland between 1632 and 1638, when he returned to America with his family:

113. GERRITT TEUNISEN VAN VECHTEN

12. TEUNIS CORNILISE VAN VECHTEN apparently came to America on the same ship as his brother Dirckse in 1638. He apparently returned to Holland where he married a woman named HESTER and had at least two sons before returning to America prior to 1646:

111. JAN VAN VECHTEN was born in Holland between 1632 and 1638.

112. SOLOMON VAN VECHTEN was born in Holland between 1632 and 1638.

121. BENJAMIN VAN VECHTEN was born 1735 in Raritan, NJ. He had at least two sons:

122. EGHERT (EGBERT?) VAN VECHTEN married an Albany girl.


1211. BENJAMIN VAN VACTOR was born 1760 in KY. He had at least two sons:

1212. JOSEPH VAN VACTER was born in 1762.


12111. JOSEPH VAN VACTOR was born in 1786. He married, first, SARAH BURT, second, MARGARET RICHARDS. He lived first in Ohio and then Indiana.

12112. BENJAMIN VAN VACTOR was born in 1792. He married a girl from Harper's Ferry before moving to Shelby county, Ohio. He lived later in Vigo county, and/or Grant county, Indiana, and his descendents in Mercer county, Missouri and South Dakota.


DAVID VAN VACTER was born in New York in 1799, a descendent of TEUNIS DIRCKSE VAN VECHTEN. He first married SARAH HUBB of New York, and soon after also married a woman named MARGARET of North Carolina. After the death of one of these two he also may have married a woman named NANCY of Shelby county, Ohio, in 1832. (This is the Mercer county, Missouri branch)

Peter Van Vechten was apparently descended from Teunis Dirckse Van Vechten, (literally "from Vechten", or "Vegten", or "Veghten", in Holland) who came to America prior to 1628.

James Brown Van Vechten, son of Peter, above, married Hannah Elizabeth Hamill. (HENRY HAMILL, # 1174.)
