THIRD GENERATION
|
111. MARY ANNE HAMILL was born in 182011,
and was christened at St. Mary the Virgin Church, in Shrewsbury, Shropshire,
England 16 July, 1822. It is uncertain why or when Mary Anne came to America.
A Mary Ann Hamill was listed on the 1850 US Census in Philadelphia. She
lived with her sister, "Fannie", Mrs. Joseph W. Watson, in Georgetown,
Colorado at the time of the census in 1870. The Watsons went to Salt Lake
City, Utah about 1871. After that, Mary Anne lived with her brother, William
Arthur Hamill and his family in Georgetown. Nothing further is known about
her until her death. She apparently lived at her brother's "Watson
Ranch" north of Riverside Cemetery in Adams County, Colorado for
some time12. The
1880 census does not list Mary Anne with either of the above families
at that time. Mary Anne Hamill apparently remained unmarried until she
died in Denver, 22 November, 1887. She was buried with the Hamill family
at Riverside Cemetery, lot 178, block 13, in Denver, 3 December, 1887. 113. THOMAS HAMILL was christened at St. Peter's in Liverpool, 22 October, 1827. No more is yet known of him. A twenty year old THOMAS HAMILL arrived in America from Liverpool aboard the "Colonist" on 19 October, 1848. A Thomas Hamill was listed on the 1850 Census for Philadelphia. 114. HENRY ST GEORGE HAMILL15 was christened at St. Peter's in Liverpool, 28 January, 1830, the same day as his brother, James. Nothing else is yet known of him. A Henry Hamill was listed on the 1850 Census for Philadelphia. 115. Doctor JAMES ST GEORGE HAMILL was christened at St. Peter's in Liverpool, 28 January, 1830, the same day as his brother Henry. In 1851, Thomas Hamill, the father, wrote to William Arthur Hamill in Philadelphia and copied a letter from the Surgeon General's office regarding Doctor James St George Hamill16. James had provided medical attendance, serving with Louisiana Volunteers at Tampico (Altamira), Mexico from 26 October, 1847 until 26 June, 1848. He was discharged at New Orleans on 5 July, 1848. Neither The National Personnel Records Center nor the National Archives and Records Administration were able to provide any records in 1995. Nothing further is yet known of him. A James Hamill was listed on the 1850 Census for Philadelphia. 116. FRANCES MARIA HAMILL was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England
25 August, 1834. "Fannie" married a Philadelphia sea captain,
WALKER M. TOMLINSON, (THOMLINSON?) in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey,
26 June, 1855 and bore at least three, and possibly four17,
children before she apparently was widowed: Joe was mayor of Central City, Colorado about 1865, at which time his
brother-in-law, William Arthur Hamill, came out from Philadelphia and
worked in Joe's tobacconist shop in Central City. Fannie and Joe lived
in Georgetown, Colorado during the 1860's before moving to Salt Lake City
in 1871. They moved to Denver in the late 1870's. It was there they spent
their remaining years. Fannie died in Denver 19 February, 1910. Joseph
died there 18 April, 1912. They were buried together at Riverside Cemetery,
lot 28, block 1, in Denver. William was appointed by Governor Frederick W. Pitkin as Brigadier General, Colorado Militia, in February, 1879. He owned the toll road over Berthoud Pass which crosses the Continental Divide East to West. He acquired it in 188322. Governor John L. Routt appointed him Railroad Commissioner, where he served from 10 April, 1891 until 31 December, 1892. His cattle won awards at the National Western Stock Show. For about the last ten years of his life, William apparently lived in Denver, residing at The Denver Club23. He had his office in the Equitable Building, Suite 209, which he shared with his sons Harry (Henry) and Jim from about 1900. He died in Denver, 3 February, 190424, of septic hepatitis (or septic nephritis) from which he had suffered for about three years. Priscilla continued to live in the family home in Georgetown on a veteran's widow pension until she died of Bright's disease at the family home in Georgetown, 3 April, 1910. Both were buried in the family plot, lot 179, block 13, Riverside Cemetery in Denver. 118. JANE HAMILL had a son : 119. HANNAH HAMILL was christened at St. Peter's in Liverpool, 19 June, 1839. Nothing else is yet known of her.
